The Abeokuta Innovation and Tech Party (AITP): Innovation Knows No Bounds

The Abeokuta Innovation and Tech Party (AITP), a groundbreaking event that brought together visionaries, innovators, and tech enthusiasts, concluded with resounding success on May 26th and 27th, 2023. This premier gathering, co-hosted by the Ogun State Government and GetFundedAfrica, exceeded all expectations, creating an unparalleled platform for collaboration, inspiration, and technological advancement.

AITP witnessed an overwhelming response from attendees, including distinguished guests, industry leaders, speakers, sponsors, investors, and enthusiastic participants. The event showcased an array of thought-provoking panel discussions, insightful presentations, engaging workshops, and networking opportunities that fostered meaningful connections within the tech and innovation ecosystem.

According to predictions, the tech industry in Africa is expected to witness a surge in investment as a result of the growing recognition of its potential and opportunities. Investors, both local and international, will show greater interest in funding innovative startups and initiatives across the continent.

“Nigeria has produced 4 of Africa’s 7 unicorns, which was one of the reasons we sited the GetFundedAfrica office in Nigeria. Not only did we site our startup in Nigeria, we set things up in Abeokuta, a city in Nigeria with proximity to Nigeria’s financial centre, Lagos. Abeokuta offers startups the opportunity to focus and grow. We believe that 1 unicorn and 50 $100m valued startups will come from Abeokuta.”

Adebola Omololu, CEO/Co-Founder of GetFundedAfrica

The Abeokuta Innovation & Tech Party (AITP) served as a catalyst for fulfilling these predictions by providing a platform for collaboration, inspiration, and technological advancement. Through its engaging panel discussions, insightful presentations, and workshops, AITP facilitated knowledge sharing and promoted the exchange of ideas among industry leaders, innovators, and tech enthusiasts.

AITP played a pivotal role in attracting investors and sponsors to the tech ecosystem in Abeokuta and beyond. The event showcased the region’s potential, creating opportunities for startups and innovators to secure funding and partnerships that can fuel their growth and drive technological advancements.

“For Africa, we kind of missed out on the first to third industrial revolution but technology provides us the opportunity to be at the cutting edge of being a global power especially with that of cloud computing, artificial intelligence and data analytics”

Olatomiwa Williams, Country Manager Microsoft for Nigeria & Ghana

AITP also initiated and fostered networking opportunities, enabling attendees to connect with like-minded individuals, potential mentors, investors, and partners. These connections are vital for driving innovation, initiating collaborations, and scaling tech ventures.

Ultimately, AITP served as a launching pad for the tech industry in Abeokuta and contributes to the overall growth of the tech ecosystem in Africa. It also empowered entrepreneurs, encourages innovation, and propelled the continent towards a tech-driven future, fulfilling the predicted advancements in various sectors, such as investment, fintech, e-commerce, agriculture, and renewable energy.

“Investing in African startups is not only a profitable venture but also a way to create positive social impact. It’s about empowering the next generation of African entrepreneurs.”

Strive Masiyiwa, Zimbabwean Businessman and Founder of Econet Wireless.

The event featured several notable moments, including the introduction and official launch of GFA’s video-on-demand platform, GFA Max and Live TV.

Additionally, significant milestones were achieved through the signing and establishment of strategic partnerships between GFA and various organizations such as Tech4Dev, Ripples Nigeria, Startup Lagos, and more.

The resounding success of AITP would not have been possible without the unwavering support and contributions of our esteemed partners, sponsors, volunteers, and attendees. We extend our deepest gratitude to each, and every individual and organization involved in making this event a remarkable achievement.

As we wrap up this extraordinary chapter, we reflect on the connections made, ideas exchanged, and collaborations formed during the Abeokuta Innovation and Tech Party. We are excited to witness the ripple effect of this event as it propels the growth of the tech and innovation ecosystem in Abeokuta and beyond.
