Nigeria’s agritech startup, Zowasel bags $100k funding

The tech-driven startup has landed a $100k investment from Guinness Nigeria Plc and Promasidor Nigeria Limited, a pan-African consumer packaged food manufacturer.

“We are delighted to invest in Zowasel and support the company’s development efforts, to build a game-changing business model to benefit the smallholder farmers, the founders, and ultimately the country. When you are successful, then Promasidor will also benefit from it, ”said Bruno Gruwez, managing director and CEO of Promasidor Nigeria Limited.

Recently, the startup launched operations across the Niger-Delta region of Nigeria with the goal to support smallholder farmers across the oil palm and cocoa value chains.

Speaking on the investment, Jerry Oche, co-founder and CEO of Zowasel said:

“We are glad two giants in Guinness Nigeria Plc and Promasidor find us worthy of investment, we are even more excited about the opportunity, trust, and confidence bestowed upon our company.”

So far, the startup has partnered with national and multinational crop processors to provide a platform for local crop sourcing and global export of commodities.

Organized by the United Nations World Food Programme, the Zero Hunger Sprint was developed to empower agritech startups with the resources needed to scale their innovative ideas. Some of these resources include funding, hands-on support, and access to WFP’s global operations.
