Former Jumia Kenya CEO Takes Up New Role at South African Fintech Mukuru

Less than a year after taking over from Betty Mwangi as Jumia Kenya CEO, Juan Seco has left the company.

Juan who has been with Jumia Kenya since 2015, when he joined as Chief Financial Officer has left the e-commerce company to join South African fintech Mukuru. 

‘’After 8 incredible years at Jumia Group, where I had the chance to be part of the founding team of Jumia Pay and subsequently lead Jumia Kenya, I am excited to share that I have joined Mukuru as Chief Growth Officer and MD East Africa.’’ Juan posted on his LinkedIn page. 

‘’Jumia was an amazing adventure and I can only thank all the talented people I have worked with over the years for the learnings and experiences shared. Now, the time has come to become an ex-jumee and carry that badge proudly,’’ he added. 

In 2017, Juan became part of the founding team of JumiaPay, as Chief Operating Officer overseeing the expansion and deployment of JumiaPay across Jumia markets. In 2019, he was named Senior Vice President of Consumer Financial Services leading fintech initiatives and the JumiaPay App, which is now available in eight countries. 

At Mukuru, Juan will serve as the fintech’s Chief Growth Officer and MD East Africa. 

Founded in 2004, Mukuru is one the largest remittances-led fintechs in the region. The company provides the continent’s migrant diaspora with safe, convenient international money transfers.
