Kenyan Healthtech Startup Zuri Health Raises Undisclosed Funding

Founded in 2021, Zuri Health is a telemedicine startup offering accessible healthcare services to patients via its mobile application, website, WhatsApp chatbot, and SMS service. Zuri Health allows patients to communicate and consult with doctors, purchase medication from pharmacies, schedule lab tests and diagnostic procedures, and arrange home visits with licensed medical doctors.

Kenya’s Zuri Health, a digital healthcare startup with operations in Kenya and Nigeria, has raised an undisclosed amount of funding from Morocco’s UM6P Ventures to support its growth and expansion across Africa. The funding will be used by the startup to upgrade its existing technology, hire additional personnel, broaden its services and expand into more regions to reach more patients.

Zuri Health is a virtual, mobile-first, on-demand healthcare platform that helps patients quickly and easily access healthcare from certified healthcare providers, based on availability, location, and specialization. The health tech allows patients to communicate and consult with doctors, purchase medication from pharmacies, schedule lab tests and diagnostic procedures, and arrange home visits with licensed medical doctors.

Zuri Health will use the funding to upgrade its existing technology, hire additional personnel, as well as broaden its services and expand into more regions to reach more patients.

According to Zuri Health’s Chief Operating Officer and Co-Founder, Titilola Olaolu-Hassan: “Being at the helm of a rapidly growing and evolving company like Zuri Health is an interesting challenge. The company’s growth rate shows that we are doing something right. We will continue to improve our operations and services to serve people better.”

UM6P Ventures is the investment arm of UM6P, which advances entrepreneurship and accelerates scientific innovation in Morocco and Africa, backed by the OCP Group. UM6P Ventures backs African-based early-stage ventures and runs two funds; a Digital Transformation fund and a Deeptech Ventures fund. It caters to innovators and entrepreneurs in the fields of science and technology and invests in startups from their creation to Series A funding.

“Several healthcare providers and facilities are still centralized in major cities or urban centers. Our investment in Zuri Health is what will help us in filling that gap, increase efficiency in the pharma supply chain, and broaden our reach. There’s no way enough hospitals will be built to reach everybody with the health care that they need,” said Yasser Biaz, CEO at UM6P Ventures.

Since its creation, Zuri Health has received 19 awards and accolades, including being the winner of the Villgro Africa Healthcare Innovation Challenge in partnership with Johnson and Johnson Impact Ventures to assist healthcare professionals and winning the SANKALP Awards 2022

Recently, the firm raised 4 1.3 million from DOB Equity, Launch Africa, and Founders Factory Africa with the participation of V8 Capital, Platform Capital, Villgro Africa, Asime Ventures, and the Salik Family Trust. Dr. Akintoye Akindele, Chairman of Platform Capital will also be joining the advisory board as part of Platform Capital’s investment in this round,

Zuri Health has thus far on-boarded more than 600 physicians on its platform, partnered with over 16 pharmacies and 29 laboratories, over 10,000 lab and pharmacy orders, and 24,000 interactions with its WhatsApp Bot.
