Egyptian ed-tech startup Sprints raises $1.2m seed to sale across MEA

Egyptian ed-tech startup Sprints has raised a US$1.2 million seed funding round to help it scale its platform across the Middle East and Africa. 

Co-founded in 2019 by Ayman Bazaraa and Bassam Sharkawy, Sprints is an end-to-end solution designed to bridge the tech talent gap – assessing talent pools, delivering a customised learning journey, and supporting its alumni’s career growth. 

The startup offers guaranteed hiring programmes, with graduates only paying upon successful hiring with zero per cent in interest payments over three years. Sprints delivers its programmes using a holistic learning approach, which allows learners to meet role-played customers, gather design requirements, and deliver software products on a weekly basis. This learning experience simulates the real business environment and acts as a sandbox for learners to acquire both technical and business skills.

The US$1.2 million seed funding round was led by Alexandria Angels Network and participating members of MED Angels, and also includes AUC Angels, Cubit Ventures,Challenge Fund, EdVentures, Falak Startups, and Cairo Angels.

“I’m very proud to witness the growth rate and achievements of Sprints’ team over the past two years. Together, we succeeded in delivering 20,000 learning experiences, resulting in more than 80 per cent employment rates. Over the upcoming three years, we target to revolutionise the tech sector by upskilling and employing one million youth,” said Bazaraa.

Tarek Elkady, founder and chairman of Alex Angels and MED Angels, said technology had yet to transform education like it had most industries. 

“Before COVID-19, most startups did not look different from how they did in the previous decades. Now ed-tech startups promise scalable, cost-saving, flexible and personalised learning experiences. Sprints is an eyecatching example of a startup that is paving the way for the future of education and job creation in the region,” he said.
