Life Changes With Efe: Value Alignment as an Entrepreneur

Values Alignment

This introduces you to the best strategy to realign your work values with your goals.

  • How do I create value in my work as an entrepreneur?
  • How I keep from straying away from my core values as an entrepreneur?
  • Why is aligning my work values with my goals important

Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve.

A value is a principle you consider to be important; it is a deeply held belief which inspires and motivates you. Values determine our actions; our actions reflect our values, therefore knowing your values and beliefs is an important part of your growth mindset.

As an entrepreneur creating a new business, there are a number of key components involved with building your business, in order to generate profit and enable growth, and usually this will be visualised in line with your vision, your purpose and mission.

When starting your business your core values are your highest priorities and building them into the foundation of your venture, will make it easier to structure your business needs for the long-run.

How do you know you are living according to your values?

Make a list of what you consider to be important, try to write down as many of them as you can, at least 5.

Endeavour to get a deeper understanding of your values especially in ways that pertain to you achieving your goals, begin to think how these values are currently expressed in your life. What are the ways in which you live these values in your daily life?

Now pick the top 3 that are most important and non-negotiable, those values at the core of who you are and which you strongly identify with.

Once you have completed this, it’s time to check in with your vision, mission and purpose to see if they are aligned with these values and this should act as criterion for decision making.

What is your why?

So, what is your purpose for starting your business? Most success stories in the field revolve around diligent individuals who have put a lot of effort into their passion projects and voila they are living their dreams.

This sounds easy peasy, but if your business model isn’t aligned with your values, its most likely that with time you will get demotivated and lose interest in your business.

Our values are reflected in the personal and professional aspects of our lives and if there is a value conflict there will be no progress, so in seeking success its best to align your model to your personal and professional values for the business to thrive.

Personal values are the attributes that any individual abides by, different people have different values but some core values an entrepreneur should embody are commitment, trust, loyalty, accountability and honesty. A business venture is usually a reflection of your personality.

Professional values can then be linked to how your personal values show up in your work ethics, how do you adhere to the rules you set for yourself and your staff, how do you respect and adhere to law and order. It is important to know your values, model those values and communicate your values to members of your organization as well as your clients. Don’t forget to celebrate those who embody the business’s core values.

Biggest Takeaway:

To achieve long-term success, it is imperative that your business and your values are aligned because there isn’t a defined path for everyone in entrepreneurship, what works for entrepreneur A might not necessarily be successful for entrepreneur B and vice versa, so building a business based on your values will definitely help sustain stability and longevity.
