Kemi’s Korner: As A Young Entrepreneur, How Do I Save My Time?

It takes a lot of discipline and courage to submit to or to make yourself available in a mentorship relationship because of the limitations placed on man by time. To be in control of time implies efficiency ,productivity, less stress and priorities in place!

The Reality Of Time….

To be a successful Entrepreneur can be very demanding irrespective of success level or business stage. A typical Startup either at seed stage or growth stage looking to moving the business to the next stage could even be under more pressure when it comes to effective management of responsibilities and commitments without faltering. Being strategic with the use of time has always been the answer to what I refer to as ‘mastering time’ Strategic thinking requires time itself. However, the result of strategic thinking, and the effective implementation brings success on board, the ultimate goal. Time indeed is priceless and the most valuable thing a man could spend.

Kemi’s Thoughts……

In my journey as an HR professional and a business partner, I beg to submit that an Entrepreneur could make time work productively without repeating mistakes that others ahead have made by leveraging on relevant experience through information sharing and establishing a relationship of quick and efficient transfer of experience whereby wisdom acquired over a decade could be captured within months. This is hidden in mentoring!

The Mentoring Side Of Life…..

Mentoring according to Wikipedia has existed in Europe as early as Ancient Greek. “The word’s origin comes from Mentor, son of Alcimus in Homer’s Odyssey. Since the 1970s it has spread in the United States mainly in training contexts and associated with important historical links to the movement advancing workplace equity for women and minorities and has been described as “an innovation in American management”.”

It is not news to say that managing business innovation takes more than ideas, technical know how, investor readiness or getting funded. There are other tangible and intangible requirements an entrepreneur may not have access to immediately except through experience which takes time. It takes innovations to take innovations to the next stage these days.

GetFundedAfrica research team identified that African founders focused on achieving sustainable growths and resolving societal challenges submit themselves to Mentorship. It is not all about finding funds. Finding funds without finding the paths may lead to confusion, waste, or outright failure.

Conclusion

In conclusion, time spent in a mentoring relationship either as the Mentor or the Mentee is a lot of sacrifice but a worthy investment that could be very rewarding. On a personal note, Mentorship is similar to an aspect of good parenting whereby a parent shares some of their experiences about life with their children, the failures, mistakes and successes while they walk them through lessons learnt to help them avoid the bad and the ugly as they forge ahead in pursuit of their dreams. This is never a wasted time in the life of both the parent and the child….and this is not to say mistakes won’t arise at all
