EGYPTIAN DISTANCE LEARNING PLATFORM ALACADEMIA LAUNCHES WITH EGP 6 MILLION SEED CAPITAL

With online learning having emerged as education’s eminent beast, more and more Arabic-language platforms are popping up, but most of them are geared towards children and students, with not a plethora of options for adult learning. Alacademia (‘The Academy’ in Arabic) is the new offering on the block, a distance education platform focused on professional development in bite-sized courses from industry experts.

Alacademia has been in the works for a year, since founder Ahmed Ashour reports the education and development experts that make up the founding team started seeing increased interest in online learning. The platform has now officially launched, with seed capital of EGP 6 million from professional e-learning content studio Entlaqa, training and consultancy firm Goldmines, and a group of individual investors.

The platform seeks to aggregate content from training and development companies across the Middle East, offering on-demand training programs in various fields of professional development, as well as specialised training programs in production, photography, and directing.

“Professional dynamics and people’s habits are changing dramatically, so we will see that demand for online learning will sustain and gradually increase even after COVID-19,” co-founder and Managing Director Ahmed Kamel tells StartupScene. 

Ahmed Ashour, board member, and co-founder explained that the work began at the platform in January. “We seek to use the latest technologies to produce educational content, utilizing our long experience in the education and training field since 2013 for the Arab audience.
