Zimbabwe’s rural and peri-urban households.

X-Solar Systems, a clean technology company started in Denmark, has become the leader in Kenya with its own solar home system. From its offices in Copenhagen and Nairobi, X-Solar Systems provides clean Energy and internet access to rural households that don’t have reliable access to electricity. It also provides solar-powered solutions for commercial and industrial (C&I) projects. By working with Sunplugged Energy, X-Solar Systems Group now has more than 150 employees in Denmark, Kenya, and Zimbabwe.

X-Solar Systems’ plan to grow is strengthened by the purchase of Sunplugged Energy.

“In Sunplugged Energy we saw the opportunity to expand into Zimbabwe, a highly attractive and high-
growing market for solar home systems and C&I, by partnering up with one of the leading players
within the industry. Sunplugged Energy has been on an incredible journey in its short lifetime, and we
are impressed by the dedication and ambitions of the management team”
says Thomas Hansen, CEO
of X-Solar Systems.

“With the acquisition we are expanding our presence across Sub-Saharan Africa
and growing our ability to provide affordable off-grid energy and connectivity to rural households”.

CEO Fidelis Mashonga started sunplugged Energy at the beginning of 2022 as a spin-off from a more prominent solar energy company. The company grew quickly because there was a significant need for reliable electricity solutions in Zimbabwe, where half of the people live off the grid. The national power grid goes down for up to 22 hours a day.

Fidelis Mashonga will keep his job as Zimbabwe’s country manager.

“It is time to take Sunplugged
Energy to the next level. In X-Solar Systems, we saw the right partner who shares our values, our
ambitions, and our strong focus on social impact. We will continue to provide top quality products and
as part of the X-Solar Systems family, we will become even more relevant to our target customers”

says Fidelis Mashonga, CEO of Sunplugged Energy.

Baker Tilly and DLA Piper have helped X-Solar Systems by giving them advice on finances and the law.
